Care for pulmonary complications of vaping in children and young adults

The Pulmonary Complications of Vaping Clinic at Boston Children’s Hospital is dedicated to treating and addressing the growing impact of vaping on lung and respiratory health in children, teens, and young adults. We help manage symptoms, improve your child’s health, educate families, and raise awareness about the risks of vaping.

How we approach vaping-related illness in children

We offer a full range of services to help children, teens, and young adults who are experiencing breathing symptoms and respiratory complications associated with vaping.  We perform a thorough symptom screening, a review of medical and vaping history, lung imaging, and lung function testing. Based on those results, we develop treatment plans and provide resources to help you or your child quit. Our team includes nurse practitioners, social workers, psychologists, and other specialists who work together to support your child’s physical and emotional well-being.

We treat a range of conditions, from severe respiratory distress to more common symptoms, such as shortness of breath or chronic cough, through individualized care and monitoring to improve improve lung function along with overall health.

We work closely with the Adolescent Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) to help patients reduce or end their vaping habit and address any other potential substance use.

Research and innovation

At the Vaping Clinic, we focus on understanding how vaping impacts lung health.

We collaborate with other leading research institutions to study the harmful chemicals in e-cigarettes and how they affect the lungs and blood vessels. Our biorepository collects blood and tissue samples for research, helping us identify harmful substances in vaping products and find better treatment options.
